This world isn’t just tough, it’s downright cruel at times. Everyone seems to feel the need to follow norms and trends set by literally a small handful of people…accelerated by the media. Too many people have lost their will to be unique in their thoughts, actions, and looks alike. We may seem to try really hard to seem like we’re comfortable in our own skin, like we actually love what we see in the mirror, but 9 out of 10 selfies proves otherwise.
Take for example the whole #NoMakeup selfie trend…hundreds of thousands of ladies upload selfies taken without an ounce of makeup on their faces only to either Snapchat filter on makeup or Instagram filter so hard you look like a plastic, lifeless doll; but hey, no makeup selfie!
Celebrities are notorious for posting #NoMakeup selfies claiming to be wearing nothing more than the skin they were born with, but when you know what you’re looking for you end up noticing the false eyelashes and overly filtered & photoshopped skin giving ladies of all ages false hope and expectations yet we wonder why eating disorders, depression, and suicide are all on the rise in the United States.
It’s time we stop comparing ourselves to those the media tells us are the “beautiful people” and embrace the beauty inside each and every one of us because only then will we truly feel confident and comfortable in our own skin.
